Why I built Laumė

Perimenopause is often described as a transition — but for many women, the first challenge is simply not knowing whether it has begun.

That was my experience. Over the past year I started noticing changes: sleep that would not settle, mood shifts that seemed to come from nowhere, a cycle that was suddenly less predictable. Some weeks I felt sure something was shifting. Other weeks the symptoms faded and I wondered if I had imagined the whole thing.

That in-between — not quite sure, not quite able to explain it — was harder than any single symptom on its own.

Looking for answers, finding noise

I did what most of us do: I searched. I read articles, scrolled forums, saved posts about food, sleep, herbs, and hormones. Some of it was helpful. Much of it was contradictory. Symptom lists are long. Research is scattered. It is not always clear what applies to your body, at your stage, on your timeline.

I also looked for tools. I tried period trackers, wellness apps, and generic fitness apps. They were built for younger bodies or for goals that did not match where I was. None of them helped me see patterns over time in a way that felt calm, private, and specific to midlife.

The idea behind Laumė

Laumė started as something I needed myself: a place to track weight, cycles, daily wellness, and the small signals that add up — and to turn that into insight I could actually use.

Not a diagnosis. Not a lecture. Just a clearer picture of what is happening, so I could stop guessing and start understanding. So I could walk into a doctor's appointment with more than "I just feel off."

The name comes from Lithuanian folklore — Laumė is a guardian spirit associated with women, nature, and care. That felt right for an app meant to support women through a stage of life that deserves more attention than it usually gets.

What Laumė is trying to do

Laumė is a health companion for perimenopause and menopause. It brings together tracking that matters in midlife — weight and measurements, cycle data, daily wellness logs, progress photos, fasting, and more — and surfaces research-backed insights from your own patterns.

Core tracking is free. The goal is habit, trust, and clarity — not paywalling the basics of understanding your body.

I am building it in public, and I do not pretend to have all the answers. I am learning as I go — about hormones, nutrition, phytotherapy, sleep, and the everyday reality of this transition.

Sharing what I learn

This blog is part of that journey. Alongside the app, I write about the topics I am researching myself: what perimenopause actually involves, eating well when hormones are shifting, herbal support and where the evidence is strong (or not). Personal learning, curated carefully — always with the reminder that wellness content is not medical advice.
